How to reinstall Googlemaps in Android

Googlemaps is a 'systems app', so you cannot just delete it like you do with many other apps.  But you can clear its data and reset it to factory settings which is as good as reinstalling.

when you have an issue with your maps it's best to first clear the data and see if that resolves it. If not then go for the second option to remove updates.

1. 🗑️ Clear cache data - only in Android

This step will resolve most issues with your Googlemaps without deleting it.
  1. Open Settings on your phone - not Delm8
  2. Go to Apps (or Apps & notifications)
  3. Find and select Maps
  4. Scroll down and tap on 'Storage'
  5. Then tap 'Clear data'
  6. Accept the warning then tap 'Delete'
  7. Now open your maps again and to test it input any postcode.
  8. Choose 'Directions' and then tap on 'Choose start location' 
  9. select 'My location'
  10. You are done 

To Uninstall Updates/Reset to factory settings

To reset Googlemaps to its factory settings:
  1. Open Settings on your phone - not Delm8
  2. Go to Apps (or Apps & notifications)
  3. Find and select Maps
  4. Tap the menu (three dots) in the top-right corner
  5. Tap Uninstall updates
  6. Confirm
This will revert GoogleMaps to the factory version that came with your phone.
Then test your Googlemaps apps to confirm it is working as expected.
  1. Open Googlemaps as usual - tap on the 'Maps' icon instead of going via Delm8
  2. Input any postcode and then choose 'Directions'
  3. Googlemaps will want to know where you are starting from - choose 'My location'
